    Week 6 and counting

Monday, September 29, 2008, 03:05 AM CST [General]

Hello everyone, just wanted to do a lil check in to let you know how im doing.  I’ve been meaning to write a blog for some time but I’ve just been so busy and at times lazy so yea…  Its going on week 6 of this semester and things are going pretty well.  Classes are going ok, for the most part.  My studying habits need some improving but for the most part I doing good.  The many organizations that I am involved in are not stressing me too bad.  Last week I have my first big event the “Speak Out”.  It was a little stressful due to the fact that only I and two other people planned and organized the event.  For the work we put in it was a success!!!  More people came than I expected and the event was featured in three news outlets in the cities.  I even had a spot on the University news!!

Im not sure if I told you this already but it is my hope to become President of the Student Government Association at my University.  It’s been my goal since entering into college.  And the prospects of that seem to be going good.  I know that this year election will be troublesome because the current Vice President will surely run and he’s been doing a nice job.  My plan is to build a great constituency with cultural groups on campus, proposal bills and resolutions that will make St. Cloud State even a better place and other things.  I hope things will work out for me.

I really enjoy working….well not working but getting paid lol.  M only working 14 hours a week but man those checks are nice when you don’t have bills every freaking week.  I’m soo happy I choose to live on campus, I should have done that last year.

O and another goal that I have before leaving college is writing a book.  I’m not sure how I’m going to do that seeing that I can barely find the time and will power to write a blog every week but if there’s a will theres a way.  Until next time friends.

    Am I doing too much??

Sunday, September 7, 2008, 05:07 AM CST [General]

This year as last year I am active in Campus Organizations.  I am President of the Asian Student in Action and Cultural Diversity Chairman for the Student Government Association.  These positions demand a lot....ALOT of my time seeing that being in these position often mean by default I’m apart of other organizations and committee within the University.  Im apart of all of these organizations for two reasons.  One creates great leadership training for the real world and two I plan to become Student Body President next year.  Which would be pretty cool.  I have a packed schedule each and every day of the work week.  Class, Work, Study time, organizational meetings (which are many!!!).  I hardly have time to sleep let along eat!!!  And not only is it time consuming, I actually have to work and invest and great deal of time and energy into the many different events and venues for each organization.  Its a lot of work but with comprehensive and responsible organizing and planning I think this semester should go well.  I try to study 2 hours a day.  So I’m not too worried with about my grades… I’m just worried I’ll get tried and burned out by all of these meetings.  I mean come on, Im only one person.  Maybe I should give one organization up but then again I feel if I do that Im letting many people down.  IDK this is really something to consider.  Mind you its only the second week of school and Im already pondering this possibility.  Anyway Im off for now…until next time.

    Thoughtfully yours,

    Ernest Langston-Shelly

President of Asian Student in Action

Cultural Diversity Chairman of Student Government

    Long Time!!!

Sunday, September 7, 2008, 04:56 AM CST [General]

Hello Onesite and the many other networking site affiliated with onesite.com. It has truly been a while. I remember beginning this site a while back, memories..... Well here we are again. The start of a new year. This is my second year at St. Cloud State University and I’m pretty excited about it.

Excited for many reasons. Well, to be completely frank I wasn't suppose to be here this year. I kind of made some ill mannered decisions this summer. With the whole trip to China and not having money to go, that kind of gave way to a $2000.00 outstanding balance which I did not have money to cover. But thankfully my step dad loaned me over 1800 bucks so that I could go back to school. You know thinking about it me and money just don’t like each other. I think I have a post of the amount of debt I’m in excluding student and personal loans. This is just not good. Man I need help!!!!

Maybe there is some kind of organization on campus that I can get help from....IDK. Well to give some more updates.... Last semester I didn’t do as well as I would have liked...taking 4 classes and FN'ing 2 of them. Not good for the GPA and with a GPA of 2.53 I really am kind of worried about my college career and being about to graduate with honors. Kind of sad but I hear that if I work hard, take those classes over I should be fine. Let’s hope so. My other 2 classes that semester I think I got a 2 B's but the FN's kind of over shadows that. But anyway I think that is enough for now....Until next time.

    Martin Luther King Day

Wednesday, January 23, 2008, 09:14 AM CST [General]

There was so much that happened this weekend, where do I start!?!?! Well for starters I was the MC of the 25th Annual NAACP Martin Luther King Jr. Freedom Fund Dinner here in St. Cloud, MN. (Downtown St. Cloud at the Civic Center, sounds so nice and important lol). It went over so well, so well indeed. It has been a minute since I've spoken in front of any crowd of people, so needless to say I was nervous. So nervous that I mispronounced some words, spoke very fast, even had some audience members looking at me funny. But I got it back together and handled myself pretty well. And obliviously I did a descent job, seeing that after the service had concluded many people congratulated and thanked me for such a nice job. There was even a person in the audience from Detroit that wanted me to get in contact with him!!! That's pretty exciting, we talked briefly and he seems as if he wants to get me connected to some people down there. So my purpose of getting connected and networking with people in the community and around the U.S has happened and I couldn't be more pleased!!

    Starting New

Tuesday, January 22, 2008, 12:06 PM CST [General]

Having been though one week of this new term I can truly say that I am expecting a great semester. I predict this for many reasons. One reason would have to be that I have one of my favorite professors from fall semester. She is just so nice, understanding, lenient, and accommodating. I'm telling you, I was on my way to failing her class but she was so gracious to me, in that she allowed me after the fall term had concluded time to turn in some extra credit to get my grade up to a C. Thus allowing me to pass the class. Yes, Professor Williams!!!!!

Another reason that I expect a better semester, is because I know what to expect. I know what I did wrong and what I did right last semester. I know that joining five organizations isn't helping anyone not even me!!! Doing too much will take you away from studying and hitting the books. So this semester I'm not going to over stretch myself with so much extra curricular activity. Student Government and Council of African American Students for me....and maybe Hmong Student Association just maybe.

This time around I am definitely not going to put myself in such a financial pickle that I did last semester. That really, really, really distracted me from studying. The weight and worry of all of that money over my head did nothing but stress me to no end. I remember that time and never ever want to go back there. Just not good on so many different level lol. One last thing to look forward to well three things are my trips to South Africa for spring break, China for the 1st part of summer and hopefully California the 2nd part of summer. Yay!!!!

So I know what I need to do, what not to do, and I have fun and exciting places to look forward to visiting to so this semester should be GREAT!!!!
